Gutters Running in to the Siding
Challenge
In many residential constructions, it's common for additions or extensions to be built off an existing structure. When gutters are installed at the roofline of these extensions, they sometimes terminate directly into the siding of the original structure. If these gutters are not properly installed or maintained, several issues may arise.
Common problems include water escaping from leaking end caps or improperly sloped gutters, resulting in overflow. These issues can cause water to run down the siding, leading to discoloration, material degradation, and potential structural damage over time. Improper water management in these transition areas is a frequent source of costly repairs and aesthetic concerns.
Solution
One effective way we address this issue is by installing a piece of aluminum flashing behind the end of the gutter. This component, known as kick-out flashing, redirects water away from the siding and into the gutter system where it belongs. It acts as a barrier that prevents rainwater from slipping behind the gutter and damaging the exterior wall. Properly installed kick-out flashing is a simple yet powerful solution that helps protect your home from costly water intrusion and long-term structural damage.
